A Study on coding application for the ICD - 9


Abstract
This study analysed for the problems of the ICD coding of inpatients in the 8 hospitals hospitals attached to university selected at our discretion during the year of 1991, that according to their annual reports, each hospital has their own ICD coding by following reason.
1. Coders¢¥ errors.
2. ¥²-defined explonation on criteria of ICD-9.
3. Missed and uncleaned doctor¢¥s diagnosis.
4. Additional Diagnosis Code or symptoms Code due to investigation for appling medical assurrance.
5. The No¢¥s alloted by the quality assurance and medical research.
6. The No¢¥s alloted by the laboratory and consultation.
Comparing health care data between individual facilities within a difined area or country, or even among countries is vital to the growth of medical information around the world. The information would be meaningless, however. Without the use of standardized systems for the identification and classification of disease processes. There-fore, to unify the standard of the hospital coding, this paper suggests that the korean clearinghouse which answers queries on hospital coding and publishes he Coding Clinic for the ICD-9 or ICD-10 Should be established.
